SHIELD (Society for HIgher Education interdisciplinary Learning and Discovery) is a nonprofit professional association for educators and learners. SHIELD supports original intellectual research and creativity in higher education by providing presentation and publication opportunities for faculty, students, and other professionals in Oklahoma and surrounding areas.
By conducting research, faculty members enhance their contributions to society, add to the body of knowledge, and may sharpen their focus in their field of study. In addition, scholarly activity can also assist in earning promotion and tenure. Learners who participate in undergraduate research enrich their learning experiences and typically increase their chances at gaining admission to graduate school. Graduate learners who participate in research can enjoy benefits ranging from the completion of course requirements, to working collaboratively with their graduate faculty, to creating original and profound research that can lead to meaningful occupations and years of scholarly activities. Other professionals enjoy a host of benefits from improving their chances at gainful employment in educational positions to adding to the educational academy.
